独立と共有を同時に獲得する
原宿・表参道エリアにあるサロンの内装計画である。天井高2.3mのマンションの約10畳の部屋に、最大5人の客と3人のスタッフが同時に滞在する。この小さな部屋の中で、客にゆったり時間を過ごしてもらうことを考えた。
壁面に対してできるだけ大きな鏡を設置し、ひとりひとりの目の前に大きな鏡像を出現させれば、自分だけの広い視界が得られるのではないか、と考えた。部屋全体に鏡が広がると、反射で部屋が広がるし、ビルの前のスギの木の風景も部屋の中に入り込んでくる。一方で、鏡を増やすと、鏡の中に他の人の鏡像が入り込んでしまい、サロンでのひとりでくつろぐ時間が壊れてしまう。そこで、3枚の鏡と、2枚の緩やかに歪んだ鏡を設置した。5枚の鏡に映った景色が部屋に浮かび、部屋全体が明るく広がる。2枚の熱処理で歪めた鏡は、視線の見合いを緩やかに曲げて、周りの景色を動的に揺らし、鏡の中のそれぞれのスペースを曖昧に分けている。
各々が特別なスペースを持ちながら、空間を共有していることに魅力を感じている。都市の中で考えていたことを、小さな美容室の部屋の中でも考えた。
An Environment That Offers Both Independence and Connection
We created the interior space plan for a beauty salon located in the Harajuku/Omotesando area of Tokyo. The space is approximately 15 square meters and has a 2.3-meter-high ceiling. It accommodates no more than five clients and three staff members at any one time. The goal was to ensure a comfortable experience for clients despite the small size of the space.
Large mirrors installed on the walls give each individual client a broad personalized view through the reflection in front of them. The mirrors line the space, imbuing it with a sense of expansiveness and also integrating a view of the cedar trees outside the building. An abundance of mirrors, however, poses the disadvantage of bringing other clients into view, disrupting the solitude and personal relaxation that people typically seek in a salon environment. To address this, we installed a combination of three standard mirrors and two subtly distorted mirrors. The reflections from these five mirrors create an interior landscape that gives the room a brighter and more expansive feel. The two heat-treated distorted mirrors gently shift the lines of sight, creating a dynamic play of movement and blurring the boundaries of each reflected space, making the distinction between individual areas less clearly defined.
The design concept seeks to offer each client their own distinct space while maintaining a sense of shared experience—a balance of independence and connection. It mirrors a concept of coexistence that is relevant to urban environments, applied to the intimate confines of a small beauty salon.
